Hywel Jarman
Hywel Jarman joined the International Lead Association in 2018. He is responsible for ILA’s communications and advocacy programmes. Previously he advised international manufacturers on media and political engagement with the British government and European Union. A former broadcast and newspaper journalist he has held senior communications and public affairs roles in the private and public sectors.

Dr Steve Binks
Dr Steve Binks joined the International Lead Association (ILA) 2011, having previously worked at the global pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline. In his role as Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs he leads a team charged with developing scientific information and analysing global regulations impacting lead value chains; advocating positions that do not disproportionately affect member’s interests. He was instrumental in the development of Lead battery360° (see https://leadbattery360.org/) , a global initiative developed by four Trade Associations to promote and recognise responsible sourcing and manufacturing in lead battery value chains from mining through to lead battery manufacturing and recycling. Steve spent over a decade as chair of the Regulatory forum for the European non-ferrous metals Trade Association, Eurometaux – a platform established to assess EU legislative development impacting companies in the metals sector.

Franziska Weber
After studying business administration, Franziska Weber worked in various positions in the metal industry for over 20 years. The last 11 years of this were spent at the international car battery manufacturer Clarios (formerly Johnson Controls / Varta). In addition to her main role in governmental affairs, she was responsible for reorganising the compliance department and later, as press spokesperson, for internal and external communications at the European plants. She then took over the implementation of the sustainability management system for the EMEA headquarter and production sites. In 2021, she switched from Industry to Association as Director of Sustainability and Raw Materials at WirtschaftsVereinigung Metalle, before taking over the Lead of the newly established Plattform Blei (Platform Lead) in 2023. An initiative of the WVMetalle representing the Lead producing and processing industry in Germany. WVMetalle speaks for the economic policy concerns of the non-ferrous metals industry with 650 companies in Germany and a turnover of 75,7 bn Euro.

Norman Mukwakwami
Switzerland
Norman Mukwakwami leads the implementation of Trafigura’s Responsible Sourcing Programme, delivering on Trafigura’s commitment to uphold internationally recognised human rights in our supply chains of minerals, metals and bulk commodities. A sustainability professional with a decade of ESG experience, Norman has worked with the World Bank, Pact, and Trafigura. His proven track record is backed by an academic foundation, including advanced degrees in Mineral Economics and Mining Engineering, and he is currently pursuing a PhD. Norman’s mission is to drive responsible sourcing, upholding industry standards while creating stakeholder value.

Flávio Bruno de Sousa
Flávio Bruno holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), an MBA in Project Management and Business Management from Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV). With over 25 years of experience in the automotive industry, he has built a solid career, starting as an engineering intern and progressing to leadership positions in strategic areas.
Throughout his professional journey, he has gained extensive experience in production and industrial, mega-project management, and sustainable development. His key achievements include leading the construction of a battery facility and, more recently, overseeing the implementation of a new metals recycling facility, reinforcing his commitment to innovation and sustainability in the industry.
Currently, he serves as Director of Metallurgy, Procurement, and Sustainability, driving operational efficiency, supply chain management, and the implementation of sustainable practices in the industry. His career is marked by strategic vision, leadership, and a strong focus on the transformation and advancement of the automotive sector.

Roger Miksad
Roger Miksad is the President and Executive Director of Battery Council International, a trade association formed in 1924 to advance the North American battery industry. He joined BCI in 2020 and today leads BCI’s regulatory and legislative strategy and engagement on all matters, including occupational safety and health, sustainability and environmental issues, government investment, and legislative relations. Mr. Miksad served as BCI’s outside legal counsel from 2009 as a Partner at the law firm of Wiley Rein LLP, where he also represented other chemical and consumer products industries. A graduate of Virginia Tech University, Mr. Miksad holds a Juris Doctor from Washington & Lee University. Mr. Miksad also serves as President of the American Battery Research Group, a subsidiary of BCI that provides pre-competitive research consortium management services.
